Its in the family...

We bought this dresser for $15 at a garage sale a couple weeks ago for my step-daughter Jadyn. Its been in the garage since then and her clothes have been in a suitcase in the bottom of her closet.
And honestly...it has been soooo hot and muggy down here (note to self: you need to move out of Arizona), that we just have not  had the desire to sit out there in the even hotter garage to do it. But...with a ton of sweat, and I am not joking it finally got done this weekend. Jadyn and her Dad teamed up...and Jadyn will modestly say it was mostly her dad! My husband Troy cut off the legs, sanded it and painted it glossy black to match her existing nightstands and vanity and it looks great!

I didn't have any part in this re-do,and it turned out fantastic.  This makes me think....I wonder what other projects they could do for me?? "Hey honey.....theres a garage full of furniture!"

Done! With a new outlook...

Here it is! Its finally done!

I have a new found appreciation for the upholstery profession. Its HARD work, very detailed and tedious. I appreciate so much the help from my friend Anita. She is very talented and has been doing this for years. She has taught me so much, and helped me realize its not as easy as I thought.

Inspiration

I have been asked where I get my ideas and inspiration from. Well, mostly from other people! I love sitting at home with a glass of wine looking at mt latest magazines or new books I just got. I am so inspired by brave designs with so much color and still simplicity undertones. I love the mixture of bold yet understated fabrics.
I loved Cottage Living, still look at all my old issues from time to time. Also loved Country Home, they are an internet magazine now, still great ideas....but would rather have it in my hands! I just recently fell in love with Romantic Homes, beautiful ideas! Also Better Homes and Gardens puts out special issues of Do it yourself, Storage and 100 Decorating ideas. I ALWAYS find something to do in there. I recently subscribed to Fresh Home, great ideas with step by step instructions to accomplish projects yourself!
I will post my favorite books soon.

I am at a point where a change is coming. I have had my house the same way for awhile now and its time for some new colors. I am also deeply inspired by other blogs, especially this one http://canadiancottage.blogspot.com/
She has the most beautiful space, and it so simple. She doesn't have a lot of little things, just a few pieces of beautiful furniture it makes a huge statement. I love it!
Check out all the blogs I follow, there are so many ideas out there.
I also saw this picture and it inspired me to do something...not sure what yet but somethings brewing...so stay tuned!

Let me know what inspires you!

Phase 2: Fainting couch

And the more I got into it...the worse it got.

Project I am working on....

And its taking forever! I started with thihs piece, actually liking the way it looked, but with more and more inspection I realized it was in very bad shape. The frame was so weak and the material was in pretty tattered. Here are some progress picks only because this thing has been taking me a very long time to complete. Not just because of time, but because of accessibility to materials. There isnt a fabric store for miles, and the closest one to us is 45 minutes away and the roof caved in over the winter and its out of business! So today I am enlisting the help of my friend Niters, hopefully by the end of the day I will be able to post a beautiful picture of this thing!
